Send in the Clowns…. uh Make That Clones

FDA Says Clones Are Safe For Food

This was reported by the Washington Post on January 15, 2008. So Let’s have some fun with the story and the way it is being shaded… shall we….

And if you really want to get the actual release direct form the FDA here it is. Titled…

FDA Issues Documents on the Safety of Food from Animal Clones

Agency Concludes that Meat and Milk from Clones of Cattle, Swine, and Goats, and the Offspring of All Clones, are as Safe to Eat as Food from Conventionally Bred Animals

After years of detailed study and analysis, the Food and Drug Administration has concluded that meat and milk from clones of cattle, swine, and goats, and the offspring of clones from any species traditionally consumed as food, are as safe to eat as food from conventionally bred animals.

There was insufficient information for the agency to reach a conclusion on the safety of food from clones of other animal species, such as sheep

“Insufficient information” never stopped them from approving something before. Why start today?

OK So Food Products From Cloned Animals Will Be Labeled As Such So We (Consumers) Can Make Our Appropriate Choices… Right? … WRONG!

Don’t believe it? Read this OUTRAGEOUS paragraph from the FDA press release…

The agency is not requiring labeling or any other additional measures for food from cattle, swine, and goat clones, or their offspring because food derived from these sources is no different from food derived from conventionally bred animals. Should a producer express a desire for voluntary labeling (e.g., “this product is clone-free”), it will be considered on a case-by-case basis to ensure compliance with statutory requirements that labeling be truthful and not misleading.

Let’s read that first part again…

“The agency is not requiring labeling or any other additional measures for food from cattle, swine, and goat clones, or their offspring”

So it is us consumers who will be left in the dark!

There goes our freedom of choice of what we choose to put into our bodies.

There goes our ability to avoid food products from cloned animals… And just you wait and see when the US Department of Agriculture under political pressure from the cloning community decides to label cloned animals “Organic”

Surely then, if the foods from cloned animals and their offspring will not be labeled… farmers can label their food products as “Non-cloned Origin” right? That would let us consumers make our own informed choices… right?

Well, Guess Again Weed Hopper

“Should a producer express a desire for voluntary labeling (e.g., “this product is clone-free”), it will be considered on a case-by-case basis”

Yes,… the FDA says “Should a producer express a desire for voluntary labeling (e.g., “this product is clone-free”), it will be considered on a case-by-case basis to ensure compliance with statutory requirements that labeling be truthful and not misleading.”

Really!!!

So who is being “protected,” by the FDA… consumers like you and me?… or is it the cloning companies?

But wait…

There’s more…

The risk assessment finds that meat and milk from clones of cattle, swine, and goats, and food from the sexually reproduced offspring of clones, are as safe to eat as food from conventionally bred animals. The science-based conclusions agree with those of the National Academy of Sciences, released in a 2002 report. The assessment was peer-reviewed by a group of independent scientific experts in cloning and animal health.

Sooo… The assessment was peer-reviewed… Hmmmm… by a group of independent scientific experts in cloning and animal health.

Who are these “group of independent scientific experts in cloning and animal health?”

Hmmmm?

Are they scientists who work for the cloning companies?

Hmmmm?

I don’t know.

Who paid for the study? They don’t do these studies for free, and they are expensive to do. So who paid?

Hmmmm?

Was it the cloning companies?

Hmmmm?

Remember, the big pharma companies who want to bring a new drug for some made up illness they just discovered that was a natural occurrence throughout the history of mankind… until they discovered some drug…

The very companies that are wanting to get permission to bring that drug to market are the ones that doe the study on it’s safety and efficacy. Guess what bad news gets buried or minimized?

I’ll leave you Dear reader with two thoughts to get to the bottom of this, And one thought to live healthy.

But first a summary of my thoughts here…

I believe very strongly in freedom of choice. I believe very strongly in the freedom to put into my body what I decide to put in my body. Not what anyone else says. I also believe in my right to be informed about what I feel I need to be informed about in order to make my own choices that I believe are healthy and in my best interest. I believe no one, or no entity has the right to take that information away from me.

Along with the freedom, I believe that you and anyone else has the right to put whatever they want into their body. So if someone has no worries or qualms about eating food that comes from cloned animals, by all means have at it. If someone feels there is no harm that can come to them by eating GMO foods… then go ahead and have at them. Just don’t complain if you get a negative un-healthy reaction. And don’t expect the rest of us to bail you out for your stupidity.

We ALL need to be informed, nothing hidden, and then we can make our own informed choices. Information should not be hidden in order to create a market for a product no one or limited amounts of people want. Especially when that blocking off of knowledge comes from the government.

First Thought

If you want to get to the bottom of something… follow the money. Who stands to benefit. Who funded whatever.

Second Thought

As someone said, and I don’t remember who or the exact quote, but it went something like this…

In the United States we are now engaged in the largest experiment on people’s health without their permission as ever occurred in human history.

Healthy Living Thought

Regarding meats, eggs, and dairy… go organic whenever possible. Yes it costs a bit more, but you are worth it. And you are saving money in the long run by protecting yourself from the diseases and other harm that can come from eating unhealthy foods. Also, avoid gmo foods. Read labels, ask questions, make demands on the people at the stores you shop for non gmo fruits and vegetables, and for reasonably priced organic meat, dairy, and eggs. If they don’t listen to you, shop elsewhere. Let them feel the power of your pocketbook.

If you want more on the FDA’s attitude and outlook of cloning this is the place.

In the words of the song…

“Send in the clowns”
