The Press and McCain Part 1
The Press And McCain… You Love Me! You really Love Me… NOT!!!
When he was far back in the pack, the press had nothing but love for John McCain. He could do no wrong. He could walk on water, He could heal the sick. He could defeat terrorists with one hand tied behind his back and asleep. He … well you get the idea.
The press and democrats in the Democrat party loved McCain. He is one of them. Just wearing a different color.
And it is the color he is wearing the press does not like.
So, when McCain was down, suddenly his campaign “had new life”, his campaign was “surging”, he was the “Maverick” who did his own thing.
He was, as we were constantly reminded a “War hero”, though for the life of me I don’t understand how being a prisoner of war makes one a war hero. I thought hero’s won, not were captured and spent time in custody not escaping. Maybe that’s just me.
You would see the press gleefully reporting on the swelling of people coming to listen to him. It was McCain all the time, unless there was something negative to report on one of the other Republican candidates, except for Ron Paul who never got any press, except maybe a mention of how much money he raised.
The adjectives the press used to describe McCain were glowing adjectives… and already he must be thinking “Those were the good old days.”
Things Have Changed
But now that he is the anointed one, and the press got their wish, look at how he is described.
Look at the story’s on him in the news, from the same papers who professed their undying love for him when he was just one of the pack.
Headlines like:
“Will John McCain’s Temper Get Him In Trouble”
McCain Missed X number of Votes
The Oldest Person Ever To Run For A First Term President
The recent story of how he was going to bolt the Republican party to be John Kerry’s running mate. And how he was going to bolt the Republican party to join with the Democrat party if John McCain could get enough goodies promised… for him… not the state he represents.
etc.
Then watch how he is being described. Words like “Hot Headed”, “Ill Tempered”, “ suffered embarrassing losses to Mr. Huckabee over the weekend in the Louisiana primary and the Kansas caucuses”, (Why not just call them losses? or Not report them like they did when Romney won?).
This is the presses time to start to spin McCain. mold him into the personality they want him to have. And then they will begin to cut him to ribbons.
Again, Think Of Using Propaganda For Manipulation.
By the time the actual campaign starts after the two parties have their conventions, McCain will have gone from the second coming of you know who… to the second coming of the devil himself.
First it starts in very small almost imperceptible ways… “embarrassing loss”, describing McCain’s study while impugning his intelligence “Mr. McCain, who went on to graduate fifth from the bottom of his class in 1958”, “did not show good judgment when he first ran in 2000”, “the hot-headed war hero with feet of nonpartisan clay”…
And there’s more, but I think you get the point. The idea is to put a small doubt in peoples minds by the descriptions being used. Then once these are ingrained, it’s time to ratchet up and add more and more, and keep piling on.
As one editorial I recently read said…
McCain-Huckabee ~ What choice do voters have?
As for Mike Huckabee – he’s still there too and media love him, so he’ll hang in as long as he’s useful to McCain. What job he gets after that? Stay tuned.
The general election isn’t until November, and to hear mainstream media tell it, it’s all over but the celebrating. Yet, they’re sharpening their knives and salivating over a McCain candidacy and have all but said they want Clinton and Obama to run on the same ticket.
This is pretty clear about the direction the media will take.
Let’s watch it as it unfolds and learn the lessons of using propaganda as a tool of manipulation of public opinion.
